Constitution Is in Danger, Not Lost

                The Constitution was written in the summer of 1787 by 55 men who were inspired by God to write it. It was signed by the 39 men who were present when it was completed. It was ratified a few months later and accepted as the Supreme Law for the new United States of America. The Constitution has served Americans well for over 229 years.

                Some people believe the Constitution is outdated while others believe the Constitution has been lost. One of the people in the latter group is Karl Denninger who posted an essay entitled “How We Lost the Constitution.” Denninger writes about a “narrow” and “common sense” compromise that some Democrats – and a few Republicans - have proposed to stop people who are on the “terror watch list” from purchasing guns. He recognizes that no one “in their right mind wants” a terrorist to buy guns, but he states that “we blew it when we allowed the creation of `watch lists’ that are (1) secret, (2) constrain people (e.g. `no-fly’ lists) and (3) have no due process protections of any sort associated with them. These are all unconstitutional, I remind you, to the extent they apply to American citizens.”

            Denninger explains that the “problem with `Secret Lists’ is that there is no way to know if you’re on one up front and, if you discover you are (while trying to board a plane or buy a gun, for example) your liberties are infringed without due process of law and, often, without any means of challenge.

                “… The issue isn’t that they have a list of people they’re watching – that’s called investigation and is part and parcel of any legitimate law enforcement agency. No, it’s the disability they impose without due process, without trial and without, in many cases, anything that would be regarded as actionable evidence of a crime.

                “If the government wishes to conduct investigations before getting warrants, that’s part of police work.

                “But imposing disabilities, including barring people from getting on a plan or buying a gun when you cannot make the case that a crime is in the process of being committed is unconstitutional, impermissible in a free society and must be stopped in its entirety.”

                What do you think? Do you believe that the Constitution is lost? I do not believe it is lost – yet. I believe that it is in a very dangerous position, even “hanging by a thread” as a prophet foretold and as wise people are declaring. The freedoms and rights of the Americans people are being carefully and slowly chipped away by people who desire to control the people. The battle about “gun rights” is not about guns at all. It is about control. Americans must maintain their right to keep and bear arms in order to keep evil people from bringing them into bondage. Defending and preserving the Constitution of the United States is the only way to preserve the freedoms that it guarantees.
