Repeal Obamacare!

Republicans campaigned on the promise that they would repeal Obamacare. Some of them – such as Senator Liza Murkowski (R-AK) – are trying to walk back on their promise. They say that an outright repeal of Obamacare without a replacement would cause havoc in the nation.

I thank the voters in Utah for sending Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) to Washington again. He is a voice of common sense and reason in a swirling mass of opinions. In an article published by The Daily Signal, Senator Lee reminds his readers that voters sent a majority of Republicans to the Senate and House and a Republican President to the White House because they promised to fix the problems in Washington. Now Senator Lee thinks that members of Congress should listen to the voters. Imagine that! Someone thinks Congress should pay attention to what voters want!

“Reforming our dysfunctional federal government and restoring sanity to our nation’s capital starts with relieving the American people from the burdens and excessive costs of our defective health care system and requiring Washington to once again live within its means.
“These objectives are two sides of the same coin. Enacting real health care reform that will clean up the mess created by Obamacare is a crucial step toward paying down our nearly $20 trillion national debt and putting the federal government on a path of fiscal sustainability.
“For this reason, some have called on Congress to use the first major legislative vehicle of the year – a budget resolution for fiscal year 2017 – to repeal and replace Obama care and to balance the federal budget.
“I, for one, would love to see a bill that simultaneously repeals and replaces Obamacare while also balancing the budget, but this approach fails to account for the protracted and piecemeal nature of the legislative process.”

This is where Senator Lee shows common sense. He says to repeal Obamacare because the vast majority of Americans want it repealed and repealing it has bipartisan support in Congress. Members of Congress are on record as voting for repealing it. Then let Congress take their time to debate and pass a good replacement for it.

Senator Lee recognizes that Americans voted for change, but they realize that change takes time. He wants to take things step by step and do a good job rather than ram another bad piece of work through Congress. Hurray for Senator Lee!
